Open Sonic Lab
radio.rituals, the open lab for sound and voice, is a participatory platform for live radio improvisation, hosted by Cosmo Schüppel and Thai Tai Pham. It brings sound, language and collective experimentation into a shared broadcast space. Participants are invited to make spontaneous interventions with voice, text, instruments and electronics, treating improvisation as an ongoing practice of trying, failing, listening and responding in real time.
The lab creates a temporary space in which transmission, collaboration and ephemeral encounters unfold through sound. It returns to SOMAPHON as a collective sound-making experience, welcoming participants to contribute their own voice, text, instrument or sound. What develops is shaped in the moment, through attention to the material in the room and to the possibilities of radio as a live, shared medium.
radio.rituals - open sonic lab emerged from Radio Rituals, Cosmo Schüppel's acoustic and lyrical improvisation series broadcast on bauhaus.fm from 2021 to 2023. Since then, the open sonic lab has hosted numerous extended live sessions, often lasting eight to twelve hours.
