Robin Minard
Robin Minard’s Artist Talk offers an introduction to a practice that has explored listening, space and the sculptural possibilities of sound since the early 1980s. Working across electroacoustic composition, sound installations, sound sculptures and radio art, Minard approaches sound as a material that can heighten the experience of a particular site and alter how its surroundings are perceived. His work asks how a space might be coloured or transformed by sound — and whether creating moments of silence can lead us to listen more closely to what is already there.
The talk provides a point of departure for considering sound beyond conventional musical forms: as an element that moves through architecture and public space, shapes attention and creates new relationships between people and their environment. Robin Minard was born in Montreal in 1953 and studied music theory and composition in Canada and Paris. From 1997 to 2021, he was Professor of Electroacoustic Composition and Sound Art at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT and Bauhaus University in Weimar, where he founded and directed the Studio for Electroacoustic Music (SeaM). His works have been presented internationally in festivals, museums, on radio and in public space.
